As building regulations are becoming more stringent, Thermal Block is being used more frequently.
It is likely to be found in post 1960’s buildings making up the inner skin of the walls. The block's thermal
and acoustic properties derive from the mix of (power station) ash, sand and cement.
Due to it’s "crumbly" nature,
fixings have been developed specifically for Thermal Block and are designed to grip the material much more efficiently than
standard wall plugs. Thermal Block can easily be drilled into using a HSS drill bit, making it easy to distinguish from solid concrete block
("breezeblock") which requires a masonry drill bit.
